How We Make Money

MrMega is free to use. This page explains how the site is funded and, just as importantly, what that funding does not affect.

Affiliate commissions

When you click through to an operator from MrMega and sign up, we may earn a commission. This is the standard affiliate model and it is how the site pays for itself. It costs you nothing extra.

What commission does not change

  • Commission rates have no effect on where a brand ranks. Rankings follow the MrMega Trust Index, set out on the How We Rate page.
  • We do not sell placement or ranking position to operators.
  • We rate from public data and the operator’s own terms, not from anything an operator pays for.
  • A brand with a poor regulatory record is described that way regardless of any commercial relationship.

Independence

We do not accept free bets, press accounts or hosted trips. We do not tell operators in advance that we are reviewing them, and we do not let them approve or amend a review. If an operator and the evidence disagree, the evidence wins.

What affiliate funding does not change

Most comparison sites in the UK gambling space receive affiliate commissions. What varies is whether the site is honest about it. On MrMega the funding model is disclosed at the top of this page and repeated transparently throughout the site. The commission structure does not influence rankings, Trust Index scores, or editorial decisions.

Trust Index scores are calculated from a consistent weighted formula applied identically to every listing. The inputs are licence status, payout speed as reported by players, complaint resolution data, and the terms and conditions that affect a player’s ability to withdraw. When a casino pays a higher commission rate, that fact is not an input to the formula. The Trust Index score of a listed brand is the same number it would be if the commission rate were zero.

The same applies to criticism. When a brand has earned negative coverage, whether for slow withdrawals, unclear bonus terms, or a pattern of unresolved complaints, that criticism stays published. Affiliate relationships have no bearing on what gets written. Several brands that generate affiliate revenue for the site have received unfavourable reviews, and those reviews remain live because the editorial standard does not bend for commercial partners.

Rankings on comparison tables are determined by a combination of Trust Index score, user rating data sourced from Trustpilot, and term-fairness analysis. No operator can buy a higher position. If a casino’s terms are unfavourable to players, its ranking reflects that even when it pays a standard affiliate commission.

What we do not do

The affiliate model is common. What is less common is refusing the shortcuts that come with it. MrMega does not accept paid placement. No operator can pay to appear in a specific position on a comparison table, nor can payment secure inclusion at all. Every listing earns its place through standard editorial evaluation.

The site does not operate a pay-for-review model. A review is not a product that can be purchased. It is a published assessment based on documented licence verification, term analysis, and aggregated player feedback. An operator cannot commission a favourable review, and no review is written to order.

There is no hidden sponsorship on MrMega. When content is sponsored, it is labelled as such. No review, guide, or comparison page carries undeclared commercial influence. The distinction between editorial and sponsored content is a legal requirement under UK consumer protection law, but it is also an editorial principle the site adheres to because transparency is the only defence against the audience’s reasonable scepticism.

The site does not accept money to remove or soften criticism. When a brand asks for negative content to be withdrawn in exchange for payment, the answer is no. This has cost the site affiliate relationships in the past, and it will again. Editorial integrity is not priced by the month.

The separation between commercial and editorial decisions

On many sites the people who write the reviews and the people who negotiate the commercial deals sit in the same room, report to the same manager, or are the same person. On MrMega the two functions are separated. The commercial team manages affiliate relationships, negotiates rates, and handles the business side. The editorial team writes, rates, and decides what gets published. Neither team has authority over the other’s domain.

Commercial staff have no access to editorial tools and cannot edit, unpublish, or alter the positioning of content. Editorial staff do not see individual commission rates, do not have commercial targets, and are not incentivised by revenue outcomes. Their performance is measured by accuracy, timeliness, and reader trust metrics, not by the income a review generates.

When a commercial partner raises a concern about coverage, the concern is logged and passed to editorial for consideration. Editorial may act on it if the concern points to a factual error, and any correction is noted on the page. If the concern is about tone, ranking, or the inclusion of criticism that the partner would prefer to see removed, editorial is free to decline. The commercial team has no override.

This structure is not unusual in publishing. Newspapers have long maintained a separation between advertising sales and the newsroom. Consumer advice sites in other sectors, from broadband comparison to current account ratings, describe similar walls. In gambling comparison, the practice is less common, which is why it is worth spelling out here.

The reader who arrives at MrMega through a search engine has no reason to trust the site by default. Trust is not assumed; it must be demonstrated, repeatedly, through transparent practice. The separation of commercial and editorial decision-making is one part of that demonstration. It does not guarantee error-free coverage, but it removes the structural incentive to distort coverage for money.
